Carlos Zapata, Esq.
Carlos is a criminal defense attorney who has tried over a dozen cases to verdict. Carlos has experience representing clients charged with drug trafficking, armed robberies, armed burglaries, domestic violence, driving under the influence – and other felony, misdemeanor, and traffic offenses. In an age where lawyers have less trial experience than ever, Carlos remains prepared to provide his clients with a vigorous defense through a jury verdict if necessary.
Before leaving the government to pursue his passion for criminal defense, Carlos was a state prosecutor in South Florida where he was the first attorney in his class to be promoted. During this time, Carlos gained significant experience working directly with the judges of Broward and Miami-Dade County, navigating the various probation and Department of Correction’s programs, and interacting with juries. Carlos now uses that knowledge to defend his clients against biased witnesses, questionable police work, and overzealous prosecutors.
After leaving the prosecutors’ office, Carlos practiced criminal defense at one of the largest firms in the State. There, he received a firm-award for excellence in recognition of the stellar legal services he provided his clients in more than fifteen counties across Florida.
Carlos is a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill. He attended this top-twenty school on a merit-based scholarship. Outside of the courtroom, Carlos enjoys sports, film, and music, all of which reflect his dynamic personality and grounded approach to life.
